Army Public School Jorhat celebrated its Sports Meet ATHLOS-18 from 24-26 Nov 18. The meet was commenced with Torch Relay, March Past and declaration of the meet open by Maj Gen Harinder Singh GOC 41 Sub Area on 24th. The three day long meet was replete with various events for the students, parents and teachers as well. The Chief Guest Maj Gen Harinder Singh, Patro APSJ applauded the school for its commendable efforts in overall development of the students.

On 24th Apr ’18 a demonstration on Usage of Compost Pit was given in the assembly as part of Earth Day celebration. The collage making competition to mark the occasion was held on 27th Apr ’18.

Inter Section Chess competition was held in the school on 19th April ’18.The participants showed great enthusiasm and thoroughly enjoyed and focused while playing the matches.

On the occasion of World Heritage Day Inter House Heritage Quiz Competition was held on 18th April ‘18. Students from both Junior (VI-VIII) and Senior(IX-XII) groups participated in the contest enthusiastically. Ajanta House emerged as the winner of both the groups.

A special assembly on Bihu and Baisakhi was presented by the students of Nalanda and Sanchi House on 13th Apr ’18. The students put up a splendid show displaying the significance of the festivals and the festivities along with a vibrant Bhangra and Bihu performance.

On 7th April ’18 a special assembly on the occasion of World Health Day was presented by the students of Ajanta House. A speech highlighting the significance of the Day was given by Dinesh Mundhra of Class X , the skit presented by the students of class XII stressed on the importance of eating healthy food to remain fit and healthy. Sq Ldr Jitu Kalita from 5AFH, Rowriah was the guest speaker of the day. He urged the students to avoid junk food and take a balance diet for maintaining good health.

The School organized Medical Check Up of students on 4th & 5th Apr ’18 in the Senior Wing and on 9th & 10th Apr ’18 in the Junior Wing.

All the teachers of APSJ were extremely excited to go on a picnic to IORA Resort on 11th Feb ’18 which refreshed their nerves and gave them the much sought after relief from a mundane routine. IORA gave the teachers a stint of being surrounded by the grace of nature and flora and offered a serene and rejuvenating experience with warm hospitality. They played various entertaining games and did not leave an opportunity to win prizes. In the afternoon, the vivacious teachers savoured the lunch which was followed by toothsome dessert. Indeed it was an exceptional picnic for all the teachers as it nourished and boosted the bond between them.

On 3rd Feb ’18 the students of APSJ got the opportunity to know what goes behind the valour of the ‘men in olive’. The entire gamut of the ammunition from guns to hand grenades were on the display at the event ‘Know your Army’. A spectacular Dog Show presented by 8 Army Dog Unit and Assam Rifles Dog Unit was the special attraction of the day.

The students of both Senior and Primary Wing of APS Jorhat were treated to a magic show on 2nd Feb ’18 and 15th Feb ’18. All the students were swayed by the magical tricks displayed by Nb Sub B K Singh, 825 ASC Bn. He had the children laugh and gasp in wonder with his performance.

A Workshop for parents and students of Class IX-XII and all the teachers was conducted in the school by Prof Kulvinder Singh, a Delhi based renowned life coach and motivator from 28th Jan ’18 to 31st Jan ’18. On the first day of the workshop Mrs Shalini Mehta, Chairperson, FWO, 41 Sub Area graced the occasion with her dignified presence. The session with parents focused on ‘ Tips on Good Parenting’ while the students learnt how to manage stress while preparing for the Exams in the session on ‘Stress Management’ on the second day. The third and the fourth day was devoted for an interactive and enriching session with the students as well as the teachers. The workshop was appreciated by one and all.

Clad in stunning sarees and crisp suits, we, the students of class XII gathered at the School auditorium one last time to bid farewell to their beloved school. The class XI students did a wonderful job in putting up a spectacular show. The songs made us hum along and the dances groove and they absolutely won us over with the food. We will be carrying a huge chunk of love and gratitude for them in our hearts as we eventually leave school for they helped us in making some of life’s treasurable memories. The most fun-filled moment was the crowning of Mr and Miss APS. The tasks,the questions, the giggling, the laughing, the cheering and the screaming made the event more desirable.

The Good luck assembly for Classes X and XII was held on 30th Jan ’18. The assembly commenced with a prayer said by Principal Mrs Yasmin Kaur seeking blessings of God for the students . It was followed by teachers’ blessings and motivational words. In the end all the students prayed and sought God’s blessings by lighting candles .

Keeping up with the enthusiasm and the pace of celebrations, dreaming big and aspiring higher the 69th Republic Day celebration in APSJ was marked by the unfurling of the Indian tricolour by the Principal Mrs Yasmin Kaur Bains. Colourful dances on fusion music, speeches and songs were presented by the students. Saluting one of the world’s greatest Republics their awe inspiring performance evoked feelings of patriotism amongst everyone present.

The year long festivities to commemorate the Silver Jubilee year of APSJ culminated with the Annual function named ‘Reflections’ on 24th Dec ’17. Hon’ble Patron of APS Jorhat Maj Gen Balraj Mehta and Mrs Shalini Mehta Chairperson FWO, 41 Sub Area graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. Reflections ’17 was a splendid manifestation of days of toil and strenuous efforts put in by the students and teachers for the seamless performance reflecting values and treasured memories. A beautiful amalgamation of eclectic events filled with dance ,music and theatrical performances, the spectacular show of talent, tenacity and finesse enthralled everyone present on the occasion. The event was also marked by the noble act of donating a sum of Rupees One Lakh to the Orphanage at Dogaon. Ms Anita Bora , a Group D employee of the school who has been serving the institution since its inception was also feted on the occasion. The program concluded with a thanksgiving address to everyone associated with making the evening memorable.

‘Gateway to Uniformed Services’, a career counseling session for the students of class XII was organized in the school on 13th Dec ’18 by Col A K Bhuyan. The session was enriching for the students aspiring to pursue a career in Armed Forces.

The Final Day 20th Nov 2017 was here, the day for all our hardwork to pay us off. From running helter-skelter all around the school, to trying to make the stalls look as attractive as ever. From practicing the dances and songs again and again, to plotting the plans for attracting the most people to one’s stall! Everything ran hand in hand. Mrs Shalini Mehta Chairperson Family Welfare Organisation, 41 Sub Area was the Chief Guest of the fete. Brig M. C Pant Dy GOC 41 Sub Area declared the fete open and motivated and appreciated the students for their efforts. There was more than just fun, there were values associated with the FETE as the entire school was bereft of all words as they saw the smile on the faces of the orphans who were especially invited for the day and handed over small tokens of love and affection. The stalls ranged from Halloween and Spin to Win to virtual reality and magical shows. From the representation of Awesome Assam to mouth watering delicacies, everything brought together at one place for the world to see and rant about the holistic approach of the School towards the event. The most awaited moment of the day was the draw of lots for the extravagant raffle prizes held on the occasion of completion of 25 glorious years of the School. This wasn’t all to the day, the day ended with all the parents and guests speaking highly of the arrangements made and appreciating all the effors put into the day to become a memorable one and every APSian holding the day in their good books forever.

A special assembly on International Day for Tolerance was conducted by Nalanda House in the Primary Wing on 16th Nov ‘17. Students presented a beautiful skit focusing on the need to be tolerant and patient to spread peace and harmony in the world.

Children’s Day was celebrated in the School with pomp and show in the Senior Wing. The day commenced with the students feeling special and blessed to have such loving teachers who conducted the morning assembly and also put up a wonderful cultural programme for them. The first item was a graceful semi-classical dance by Priyamma’am invoking God’s holy presence. This was followed by a melodious number by Masoom ma’am. Jyotirupa ma’am andManoj sir’s mellifluous rendition left everyone spellbound. Raja sir’s solo performance was applauded by one and all. The icing on the cake was a group dance by all the teachers on a peppy number. The Primary Wing, students were treated to a fun filled day at Sukapha Samannay Kalashetra on the occassion of Children’s Day. Replete with fun and excitement the students thoroughly enjoyed the day with their friends and teachers out of the confines of their classrooms.

Bhasvati P Dutta, Moyoukh Baruah and Abhishek Baruah of Army Public School Jorhat got selected for the 63rd National School Games (Swimming) going to be held at Chatrasal Stadium, New Delhi from 25th Nov ’17 to 29th Nov ’17.

‘Reading makes a man perfect’ said Bacon . With a view to shape the reading habits of students the School organized a Book Fair from 16th Nov ‘17 to 20th Nov ’17 in its premises. The vast collection of engaging and affordable books displayed at the Fair catered to the needs of the students from all age groups and was a treat to the voracious readers. ONRT-2017 To encourage reading habits among students Army Public School, Jorhat also joined the bandwagon of One Nation Reading Together-2017, an initiative of Scholastic Publication on 19th Nov ‘17. It was an exotic moment when all the senior APSJians read their favourite book for 20 minutes in complete silence.
Master Rishabh Baidya and Dinesh Mundra of classes IX and X respectively ,emerged as winner of the Quiz Contest organized by the Income Tax Department, Jorhat Circle on the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week on 3rd Nov’17.

A special assembly on Guru Nanak Jayanti was presented by the students of Ajanta House in the Primary Wing on 3rd Nov ’17. The Programme commenced with melodious rendition of Shabad bythe Tiny Tots and was followed by a speech highlighting the significance of the Festival. Principal MrsYasminKaur stressed on the importance of being a good human being in her speech and complimented everyone for a splendid performance.

With a view to create awareness about the threat to Rhinos and the need for urgent action a wide array of activities were organized for the students of classes I to V on 31st Oct ‘17. All the students took part in the Slogan writing , Collage and Mask making competitions held on the occasion with zeal and enthusiasm.

Army Public School, Jorhat organized an Inter-School Football Tournament from 30th October ’17 to 3rd November ’17. Eight schools from Jorhat participated in this tournament which was kicked off by Brigadier M C Pant, GOC, 41 Sub Area. After four days of exciting game play KV Air force and APS, Jorhat reached the finals. With the weather setting in the perfect mood for a good football game and tension charging up the air, an intense show of professional skills and techniques between the two strong opponents proved to be at par with the expectations. With both teams giving their best and refusing to back down, the match moved on to the penalty shootouts, wherein the home team, APS, Jorhat emerged victorious.

On 30th October ’17 new football ground of the School was inaugurated by Brig M C Pant Dy GOC 41 Sub Area, Chairperson APS Jorhat. With the School celebrating its 25th year of inception it was initiated with the Silver Jubilee Cup Football Tournament in which teams from eight schools of Jorhat vied for the coveted trophy. This new addition will be an asset to the School for organizing inter school tournaments in a grand level in the forthcoming years.

On 28th Oct’17, 15 students of XII- Science went to Kaziranga University early morning to attend a workshop conducted by TechBlitz, KU. The workshop was on Robotics and Tech and commenced from 10:00 a.m. The day long workshop was interesting and all the students got to learn many new things. The technological advancement in the future years interested all the participants. The workshop provided an enriching platform for the students to experience new things.

A motivational session on “Success and Personal Development” was held on 25th October 2017 in the School for the students of class XII. Resource person Mr Bobby Roy from Kaziranga University stressed on the importance of passion and dream in one’s life to achieve success.

On 24th October 2017 an educational tour to Tocklai Tea Research Centre was conducted for students of Class IX. The students were taken around the campus by Dr Pritom Chowdhury and Mr Madhurjya Gogoi who gave a detailed information about different varieties of tea and also about how tea is grown. Students were also taken to various laboratories and were explained about different research techniques.

Army Public School Jorhat organized a Workshop on “First Aid” on 21st October 2017 at the school premises at 9am. Headed by WngCmdr G. Rajaram and his team the workshop was attended by the students of VIII to XII. The students were given information about small cuts, bruises, burns and fractures. The basic life support and the working of heart was demonstrated with a mannequin. The workshop proved to be enriching for both teachers and students.

Army Public School Jorhat organized the Inter Army School Command Level Debate Competition 2017 on 23rd October 2017 at Rhino Auditorium. Teams from six Army Public Schools of Eastern Command-APS Bengdubi, APS Gangtok, APS Barrackpore, APS Rangapahar, APS Shillong and APS Narangi participated in the event and APS Bengdubi was adjudged the winner of the competition. The judges of the debate were Mrs Anjali Kumar, Principal DPS Jorhat, Mrs Anmona Bora, Academic Vice Principal(Arts) J B College, Jorhat and Mrs Moushumi Borbora, Principal Air Force School Jorhat. The chief guest of the event was Maj Gen Balraj Mehta, SM, GOC 41 Sub Area, Patron, APS Jorhat. Best speaker-Hitoishi Sarkar, APS Narangi Best Interjector- Simon Biswas, APS Barrackpore

A special assembly on Diwali the festival of lights was presented by the students of Nalanda House on 17th October 2017. The programme started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Principal Mrs Yasmin Kaur Bains. The students put up a splendid performance replete with a group dance, a song and a poem recitation focusing on the importance of eco friendly diwali. The Principal in her speech urged the students not to play with fireworks on this festival and also told them the significance of the day.

On 16th October 2017 the students of class VI were taken to the District Panchayat Office(Jorhat Zilla Parishad) for a study tour. During their visit the students gathered information about the three tier Panchayati Raj System, the basic functioning of the Jorhat Zilla Parishad and its elected members and the tour proved to be very enriching and informative for the students.

Army Public School Jorhat organized a “Walkathon” on 15th October 2017 to commemorate its Silver Jubilee Celebration. The event commenced with unveiling of the insignia to mark the occasion by Brig M C Pant, Dy GOC 41 Sub Area, Chairman APS Jorhat. It was a huge success with students, teachers and dignitaries taking part in the event with equal gusto despite inclement weather.

Army Public School Jorhat emerged as the winner of “Bharat Ko Jano” –a quiz competition organized by Bharat Vikash Parishad on 15th October 2017.

On 10th October 2017 APS Jorhat organized a dental check up in the primary wing. Dr Meenakshi Bordoloi from 5 Air Force Hospital and a dental hygienist P.Sindhu gave a lecture on basic dental care to the tiny tots. Demo on cleaning of teeth, proper brushing technique, prevention of periodontitis, scaling etc were also given.

On 10th October 2017 the 1st SOF International General Knowledge Olympiad was held in the school for the students of the classes IV to X. On 12th October 2017 the 8th SOF International English Olympiad was conducted in the school for the students of classes IV to X.
SBOA Public School Guwahati hosted the CBSE Cluster-I Volleyball Tournament, East Zone, 2017-18 from 12th October 2017 to 14th October 2017 for under 17 and 19 (Girls and Boys). Out of the 10 teams participating in the under 19 girls section, team APS Jorhat succeeded in securing the first position. Among the 25 participating teams, team APS Jorhat was awarded the ‘Best Disciplined Team Trophy’. Kajol Kardong (Cl XII) received the Best Player Under 19 Girls’ Trophy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swach Bharat Mission on 2nd October 2014. The ambitious programme aims to make the streets, roads and infrastructure clean across the country. To create awareness amongst the students of India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive, the school conducted different activities. In primary wing, importance of hand wash before and after meals was emphasized and the correct technique of washing the hands was also demonstrated. A poster making competition was held for the classes III to XI. In senior wing a special talk on Maintaining Personal Hygiene and Environmental Hygiene was given and a cleanliness drive was carried out in the vicinity of the school to generate awareness amongst the community.

Three students of the school Mayukh Baruah, Abhisekh Baruah and Bhaswati Dutta participated in the CBSE East Zone and Far East Zone Swimming Championship 2017 organised by ‘Sheyn International School, Jamshedpur, Kandra Road, Jharkhand and bagged 5 gold medals, 1 gold and 1 silver and 1 silver and 1 bronze respectively.

A talk and a demonstration on “Disaster Management” was given by a team of resource persons from Civil Defence Department, Golaghat and Jorhat to the students of classes IX, X, XI & XII on 6th September'17. The students learned life saving techniques like “One man human touch” and “Pick a bag” during the session.

Army Public School, Jorhat emerged as the winner of Inter Army Public School Quiz Competition organized by APS, Basistha on 5th September ’17.

Teachers’ Day was celebrated in the school with great aplomb. All the students put up a cultural show for their beloved teachers and class XII students played the role of their favourite teachers. The day culminated with a sumptuous lunch for the teachers.

Maj Gen Balraj Mehta, SM GOC 41 Sub Area and Patron APS, Jorhat paid his maiden visit to the school on 4th September’17.

The school bade farewell to Maj Gen Rajiv Mishra VSM, GOC 41 Sub Area and Mrs. Aparna Mishra, Chairperson FWO 41 Sub Area on 26th Aug’17.

The school celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervor. The cultural programme presented on the occasion was replete with speeches by the Chief Guest Maj Gen Rajiv Mishra, VSM GOC 41 Sub Area and Mrs. Yasmin Kaur, Principal APSJ, a melodious rendition of patriotic song, an invigorating dance performance and a skit depicting the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters.

A special assembly on “Essence of India” was presented by the students of class XI (Science) on 4th August’17. The students showcased the diverse culture of the country through a cultural programme.

On 31st of July'17, Investiture Ceremony of the new portfolio holders was held in the school. All the newly elected captains, Vice captains and prefects took oath to render their duties sincerely and live up to the motto of AWES, "Truth is God".

On 27th July'17 farewell function of the outgoing Principal Mrs Tasmin Hye, was organized. A cultural programme was presented by the students followed by a speech by Bhaswati Dutta of class XII(Humanities). The student representatives of each class gave a farewell card to the Principal. The day culminated with a short programme by the teachers followed by lunch from the staff.

On 4th July'17 Brig M C Pant, Dy GOC 41 Sub Area addresses the teachers of Class X and Class XII and urged them to carry out their responsibilities sincerely. He also discussed about certain ways to improve students performance in the upcoming board exams.

On 3rd July,17 an orientation programme for the teachers was organized by the Principal APS, Jorhat. The programme dealt with the responsibilities of the teachers towards the students and also the duties of a good teacher.
On 20 May 2017 a presentation on “Do research for the benefit of the society” was given by Dr Bidyut Sarmach, Director DBT AAU Centre, Assam Agriculture University. The presentation helped the students to understand the importance of research for the benefit of the society. The presentation also helped the students to learn about genetically modified crops for cursing food insecurity.

In-Service Traning for the teachers was conducted from 15 May 17 to 19 May 2017 on a wide array of topics to enrich the teachers and make the process of teaching and learning more effective in the classroom. The training included lectures, interactive sessions and workshop by experienced Resource Persons on the topics “Stress Management and how to deal with adolescence”, “Instructional design and Content designings”, “Child Psychology with special emphasis on autistic children”, “ Use of Phonetics” and “Teaching Strategies”.

On 12 May 2017 the students of classes VII, VIII and IX were taken to the Rhino Auditorium for a movie, “Eddie the Eagle”. All the students enjoyed the movie which conveyed the message of the importance of strong determination and perseverance in life to achieve success. The day started with a speech on “Etiquette” by Col Bhuyan followed by another wonderful speech on “Positive Attitude” by Mrs Dipali Mathur.

A book fair by Scholastic was organized in the School auditorium from 2nd May 2017 to 6th May 2017. It was inaugurated by Brig M C Pant, Dy GOC 41 Sub Area and Chairman APS, Jorhat.

AWES Raising Day was observed in the School on 29 Apr 2017. On this occasion the students of APS, Jorhat presented a special assembly. A talk highlighting the importance of the day was given by the students. The assembly was followed by a plantation programme by the students accompanied by the Principal Mrs Tasmin Hye and teachers, inter-house spellathon and finally Shramdaan by the students.

On 21 April 2017, Ms Odyssey Gohain, an alumni of the School presently pursuing her degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Christ University, Bangalore gave a presentation on "Problems related to adolescence and Puberty" to the girls of class VIII. The presentation accompanied by a PPT helped the students to understand various aspects of Puberty, Child sexual abuse and adolescence.

A special assembly on Rongali Bihu was put up by the students on 13 April 2017. A speech highlighting the signifinance of Rongali Bihu was given by Ankita and Arihana followed by a quiz and a beautiful bihu dance. All the participants put up a splendid show.
